With domain know-how, the customization-oriented medical team provides all-around service
With the rapid rise of intelligent healthcare, cutting-edge technologies such as edge computing, artificial intelligence, imaging, and robotics are being widely applied in the healthcare field, defining the future of medicine and healthcare. According to Global Market Insights, “smart medical devices market size exceeded USD 25.3 billion in 2020 and is estimated to grow at over 11.2% between 2021 and 2027".
Most medical computer devices rely on customization due to complicated demands and local medical compliance and verification; although the bar to customizing medical computer devices is relatively high, as a leading manufacturer of industrial PC with a variety of products, Axiomtek possesses abundant resources in R&D from single board computers to systems and offers partial customized solution such as I/O and chassis modification, or even comprehensive tailor-made solutions, making it the best partner for medical systems customization.
With rich experience in medical computer device customization, Axiomtek has been the extended engineering resource for the customers, hence they do not have to worry about the hardware design anymore; Axiomtek provides not only hardware but also all-around services. No matter whether it is single board computers or advanced systems, we can take your project from inception to delivery, simplifying the process as easy as possible along the way. While our medical team is customization-oriented, it always gives immediate feedback and advice to the request of quotation.

Axiomtek assists with BOM management, longevity support, and medical verification, leaving no worries for the customers. Axiomtek also pays attention to issues in detail like the end of life (EOL) and last-time buy and lessens the workload and burden; we always keep an eye on the material management and ensure the production line does not stop and waste no time.
Additionally, to fully realize the one-stop service, Besides making minor modifications to the configurations, such as display interfaces or I/O. Axiomtek also provides Configure-to-Order Service, as customer purchases a single board computer or a chassis, Axiomtek can also source peripherals e.g. SSD or memories for our customers or change the configuration from standard SKUs. As a result, our customers do not need to find other vendors and can gain profits by cost-effective products
Case Study: From SBC to server system, continuous support meets the demands
In a comprehensive customization case, Axiomtek has crafted a server-grade dual CPU single board computer for a genetic sequencing system; years later as the system went toward the modular design and required a micro server installed inside of it, Axiomtek had tailor-made the chassis of the 2U micro server and the new server-grade motherboard to fulfill the new design and more demanding computing capability. The processing can be accelerated with multiple riser cards thanks to additional PCIe slots and 10G Ethernet card. The motherboard featured the data center accelerator card and GPU to speed up the processing as the motherboard provides three PCIex16 slots for graphics upgradability and U.2 interface for faster mass data storage.
As the micro server needs to be able to fit the system, Axiomtek had to keep the size small and it was difficult to work for the mechanical engineers. Therefore the power supply unit was removed and the supply was changed from AC to DC to minimize the system size. What was more difficult was that the customer demanded the noise to be under 60 dB, which showcased the excellent ventilation capability of our design which required fewer fans.
With a sleek design for the chassis, the microserver can “plug and play” for easier maintenance and reduce downtime. The server board can also fit with other systems in different designs and is highly scalable.
During the whole process, the key to success is the fast and constant communication between the three parties. Axiomtek has a design engineer service team based in the United States. After acquiring feedback from the customer, the design team can pass it to the R&D team in Taiwan; on the next day, the customer can receive suggestions from R&D, which means the service is non-stop and wastes no time.
Case Study: System overhaul and next-generation migration
In a partial customization case, Axiomtek remodeled the endoscope system for the customer. In the original system, the Mini-ITX SBC was used, but it was a consumer-grade motherboard, which made the customer worry about EOL and the short product life cycle. More than customizing a new Mini-ITX motherboard that met the customer’s requirement, the chassis also needed to be modified and redesigned not only to make the outlook sleek but also to clean the cable routing.
Since the customer only provided the size of the chassis, the mechanical engineering team researched the old one and tried to redesign it with new advantages, combining the advantages of the previous one. For example, the system needed a fan for heat dissipation, but in the new generation, our team moved it inside the chassis to avoid being splashed by water when the system needs to be cleaned. The team anticipated the complete application scenarios and finished the ID within a month, which showcased the capacity of Axiomtek.
